Article Retraction & Withdrawal

Permukiman Journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scientific publication process. This policy explains the conditions and procedures related to manuscript withdrawal and article retraction, which refer to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Manuscript Withdrawal (Before Publication)
  • Authors may submit a manuscript rendering only if the manuscript has not been declared accepted for publication.
  • The publication request must be submitted in writing by the author and approved by all authors.
  • Once the peer-review process has begun, manuscript withdrawal is strongly discouraged because it will waste editor and reviewer resources.
2. Withdrawal After Manuscript Acceptance
  • A manuscript that has been accepted but not yet published cannot be withdrawn, unless there are strong ethical reasons, such as:
    - Major data errors that cannot be corrected;
    - Duplicate submissions;
    - Violation of research or publication ethics.
  • The request must be accompanied by a complete written explanation and will be reviewed by the editorial board.
3. Article Retraction (Retraction) After Publication
A published article can only be retracted (withdrawn) if:
  • Evidence of violation of scientific integrity is found (e.g. fabrication or data manipulation);
  • The article contains a lot of plagiarism;
  • Significant errors that invalidate research findings;
  • A violation of research ethics occurs
If a retraction is made, the journal will issue an official retraction notice. The original article remains available in bold, but will be watermarked “Retracted” to maintain transparency.

4. Unethical Retractions
  • Disclosure requests made for non-academic reasons, such as changes in SINTA accreditation, institutional policies, or personal reasons are unacceptable.
  • Unilateral withdrawal after an article has been accepted or published is an unethical act and may be subject to sanctions in the form of:
    - A ban on sending manuscripts to the Permukiman Journal for a certain period;
    - Reporting to the author's institution or affiliation.
5. Retraction Process
  • The decision to write an article is taken by the Editor-in-Chief together with the editorial board and, if necessary, involving external experts.
  • All retraction processes refer to the COPE Retraction Guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness.
